Christian, Are You Ready?

Christian, Are You Ready?

John 14:1-3 - “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I WILL COME AGAIN, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Revelation 22:20 - “He which testifieth these things saith, SURELY I COME QUICKLY. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

At Fairhaven Baptist Church in Chesterton, Indiana, there is a certain older man, Mr. Hady, whom I count as my adopted grandfather. At the end of our discussion, I would leave with, “See you tomorrow (or whenever), Mr. Hady.” Then, he would always add, “Lord willing. Don’t forget that.” Since then, I have made sure to add “Lord willing” to my farewells.

How often do we take the phrase “Lord willing” lightly? We don’t know what tomorrow will bring (Proverbs 27:1). We don’t know if God will bring us home tomorrow or five years from now. Of course, we should not be afraid of the day approaching. We should rejoice and look forward to the day we go to heaven, spending eternity with Jesus and fellowship with Him face to face, all the time! The Bible even tells us we need to comfort one another with these words (1 Thessalonians 4:18).

We should not take our life on earth for granted. Mr. Hady often tells me not to get old. So, I sometimes respond with, “How do I keep from getting old?” His answer is always, “Ask the Lord to come soon.” We should be as excited as he is about heaven. We are called the bride. Imagine walking up to a bride and asking her when the big day is. And she says, “Oh, any day now.” An ideal bride would say more than that. Why, she would tell you how many months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds (maybe even nanoseconds!) there are until the big wedding day! She has been thinking and planning and looking forward to this day since she was a little girl. And she’s always counting down to that great day! Let’s get excited and look forward to our Lord’s coming, beloved.
